Winter means chilly mornings! I love my Shakeology for breakfast but there are days when something quick and warm for breakfast or a mid morning snack is in order. Something that will, as my mother used to say, will stick to your ribs. For me that is oatmeal. A steamy, fruity, slightly sweet bowl of healthy goodness! And sometimes a little nutty!
For those days when I am in a rush to get out the door, rather than using those instant pack of oatmeal with unwanted extras added in I make put together my own instant bowls! They are quick and easy to put together when you are prepping for the week.
Some people use cute little mason jars but I prefer a wider mouthed container that is easier to stir and scoop. So I use 2 cup plastic food containers with screw on lids.
I prepare 5 at once so I can grab, add hot water, stir, cover and go! It is ready to eat in 3-5 minutes!
These are so simple! Layer your ingredients: 1/4 cup organic Old Fashioned Oatmeal, 1/4 cup freeze dried fruit (no sugar added, Trader Joe’s has a great variety of freeze dried fruit!) and granulated sweetener (example: sugar in the raw or organic brown sugar). Cover tightly and store until ready to eat! Quick and easy prep!
When ready to use – add 1/2 cup of boiling water, give it a little stir and put the lid back on. Ready to eat in 5 – 8 minutes! It will be hot so handle with care!
For sweetener you can use Stevia however I am not a fan of Stevia so I use organic brown sugar or add a little honey, pure maple syrup or agave syrup when I add the boiling water. Your choice! Or totally skip the sweetener! And you can get creative adding nuts and spices! My favorite flavorings are powdered organic vanilla, powdered peanut butter (PB2) and cinnamon. Check out my favorite combos!
