5 Simple Tips to Avoid Holiday Party Traps

This time of the year can be challenging! All those parties and holiday meals can lead you to feel trapped into over eating or drinking.  We all indulge ourselves a little and should but that does not mean we can give ourselves a licence to eat and drink everything we come across.  This is especially true this time of year when treats and delicious offerings are present almost every time you go to a social gathering.  To keep from falling off the deep end and reverting to old habits I have found that coming up with a plan and sticking to it is key.  In addition, below are some simple helpful tips to help avoid holiday weight gain.

  • Bring one or two appetizers of dishes you enjoy that are healthy to share with others.  That way you know that there is something you can eat without worry.
  • Do not feel pressured to accept more food or drink because someone encourages you.  You know your limits, make a plan and stick to it. 
  • Eat a small but filling meal or snack before you go to a party. Shakeology fills the bill nicely, satisfying and filling! If you are not hungry when you arrive, you are more likely to stick to your plan.
  • If you are going to have a lovely holiday drink, start with club soda or water first and alternate between this and a party drink! So after alcoholic drink, consume a glass of water.
  • Do not stay in the same room with the food! Or stand more than an arms length away from those tasty morsels, keep them out of nibbling reach!
