Healthier Asian Dipping Sauces
By Donna&Danielle on January 31, 2016
Chips and dip, vegetables and dip….Who doesn’t love to dip! However those dips can sabotage a healthy meal, snack or appetizer.
When we eat Asian or Thai foods we also love to dip and drizzle! Asian dips are a standard on our table when we eat spring rolls and lettuce wraps. It seems to elevate the dish to another level!
Our favorite sauces are peanut sauce, sweet chili sauce and of course a more traditional soy based sauce. When serving spring rolls as an appetizer these sauces are a must! Drizzling these tasty sauces on chicken lettuce wraps creates a new taste sensation with each different sauce used. Check out our spring roll recipe!
Traditional sauces can be high in sugar and fat so of course we cleaned them up to fit into our healthy eating lifestyle. They are not perfect but have less sugar and fat and we can enjoy our food and stay on track!
Substituting honey or organic sugar instead of refined white sugar as well as substituting BRAGG Liquid Aminos for soy sauce are a couple of the changes made. We also chose to use smooth organic peanut butter in the peanut sauce. Potato starch works nicely to thicken the sauces just a bit but you can use corn starch if that is what you have on hand. Feel free to adjust flavorings to your taste. Let us know of your favorite combinations!
By making your own sauces and controlling the ingredients you do not have to hesitate to dip but can do so in moderation without worry! Healthy eating is not meant to be deprivation! Enjoy!
