Have you ever had one of those days where everything you do just seems to go wrong? You can’t do anything right, you are over worked, the kids are grumpy and fighting, the dog tore up the newspaper, you burned dinner, you missed appointments, you lose things that you KNOW you put right in that specific place…. Well this has been one of those days! So I decided to do something for myself. No time (or money) for a trip to the spa so I decided to whip up one of my favorite easy sugar scrub recipes to give myself some much needed pampering. We all know that sugar is not the best food choice… However it does have some benefits… When used in a sugar scrub it becomes incredibly moisturizing and exfoliating to the skin. And when scented, sugar scrubs act as a soothing or exhilarating aromatherapy.
No need to go to the spa or store, you can make an inexpensive sugar scrub right in your own kitchen! They take under 15 minutes to make. With fall and the holidays upon us I have a couple of favorites like Pumpkin Pie Scrub and Gingerbread scrub. Of course a lemon scrub and soothing lavender scrub are 2 of my must have standbys. These scrubs will keep on your shelf for 2 months or longer. Store them in a glass jar.
Easy Sugar Scrub Recipes
Pumpkin Pie Scrub:
1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 cup white sugar, 1/3 to 1/2 cup coconut oil (liquid form), 1/2 tsp vitamin E or avocado oil, 1 pumpkin pie spices and 1 tsp cinnamon, depending on desired consistency
½ cup light brown sugar, ½ cup white sugar, 1 tsp ginger, ½ tsp nutmeg, ½ tsp cinnamon, ¼ tsp ground cloves, ⅓ to ½ cup coconut oil (liquid form), depending on desired consistency
Lemon Scrub :
1 cup white sugar, 1/3 to 1/2 cup olive oil (depending on desired consistency), 1/2 tsp coconut oil (liquid form), 15-20 drops (or more) of lemon essential oil.
Vanilla Lavender Relaxing Scrub:
1 cup white sugar, 1/3 to 1/2 cup almond oil (depending on desired consistency), 1/2 tsp coconut oil (liquid form), 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract and 15 drops lavender essential oil or a essential oil mix with lavender (my favorite is Mellow Mix with lavender and sandalwood, so relaxing)
Note: To use these scrubs for silky skin, apply approximately 1 Tablespoon to wet skin and rub lightly. Rinse with warm water (and soap if desired).
Sugar scrubs make great gifts too! Pour the scrub in pretty glass jars or a jelly jar and tie a ribbon around it!
