Over 50? 5 Tips for Fitness
By Donna&Danielle on August 16, 2015
Fitness at any age even after 50!
“I will not be a fluffy Nana I will be a fit Nana. My only exercise will not be rocking in a rocking chair!”
At age 55 that is what I said to myself. It is when I decided to make a huge change in my life. I became determined to be fit for my family and my health but most of all for ME!
Although I have lost 45lbs. my journey to becoming fit and healthy is ongoing. Along the way I have discovered the following tips that have helped me (at age 56) to stick with a fitness program:
No fancy equipment. I tried that in the past and discovered exercise equipment is great for drying clothes, hanging clothes…. I found that DVD’s with little to no equipment fit the bill for me.
Going to a class or to the gym was impossible on a regular basis, too easy to “miss” the class or not make it to gym before it closed. Doing the 21 day fix I have an appointment in my home, on my terms with me, the TV and Autumn Calabrese every day. I can even exercise in my pajamas or pretend I am a beach babe dancer. I don’t have to worry about what I look like and can replay whenever I need to learn a move! My DVD exercise buddies are awesome!
#3 Strength, cardio, flexibility
These are components I wanted and still want to work on. When I began my fitness journey I couldn’t jog in place, touch my toes or do exercises lifting anything heavier than a can of vegetables. Now I can do all that plus more!
I get bored. I love the variety of Beachbody’s DVD programs (21 Day Fix, Cize, Turbo Jam…) as well as adding in some biking, walking, paddle boarding…..
I needed to be accountable to someone besides myself but meetings didn’t appeal or fit in my schedule. Online Private Facebook challenge groups provided non judgmental support, education, motivation and accountability. I can check in with the group anytime during the day, post questions, concerns, get ideas and learn! Love the variety of different themes the various groups provide.
For me following these steps was the way to success! I have found other tips and tricks with food choices that help to maximize weight loss too. If you are interested in having me coach you through your journey send me some information; I love helping others problem solve their way to their goals! If I can do it so can you!
